Privacy Policy

KartChef ("KartChef", "we", "us") builds a meal-planning app that turns recipes into a grocery list and sends it to your store cart. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how it's protected. KartChef is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by The Kroger Co.
What we collect
- Account data. KartChef works without an email address at first — you get an anonymous account automatically. If you later create a full account, we store your email and an encrypted password (we never see your password in plain text).
- Store connection. To send a list to your cart, KartChef connects to your Kroger-family account through Kroger's own sign-in page. KartChef never sees or stores your Kroger password — Kroger issues us a limited access token, which we store securely and use only to read products and send items to your cart.
- Recipes and shopping data.Recipes you save or import, the meals you plan, and the grocery lists you generate.
- Purchase history. If you subscribe to KartChef Premium, we receive your purchase history — subscription status, trial and renewal dates — from Apple's billing system. We use this to run Premium features (app functionality) and to understand subscription trends in aggregate (analytics). Payment card details go directly to Apple — KartChef never sees or stores them.
- Basic diagnostics. Aggregated, cookie-free visit counts for this website, and standard crash/performance data Apple collects for apps on TestFlight and the App Store. Neither is used to identify you personally or to advertise to you.
How we use it
Strictly to run the product: matching your recipes' ingredients to real products at your store, calculating quantities, sending your list to your cart, and managing your subscription. When you paste in a recipe link, the page text is processed by an AI service we use solely to extract that recipe's ingredients and steps — a one-time parsing request, not retained to build an advertising profile or to train that provider's models. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising or cross-app/cross-site tracking.
Who we share it with
We don't sell your data or share it for advertising. A small number of trusted service providers process data strictly on our behalf, under contracts that limit them to only that purpose:
- Secure database hosting and account authentication
- Kroger, when you connect your own store account — governed by your relationship with Kroger, not us
- Apple, for subscription billing and payment processing
- An AI provider, for one-time parsing of recipe text you submit
- Privacy-focused website hosting and analytics, with no cookies or cross-site tracking
Our service providers are primarily based in, and process data in, the United States.
Your controls & rights
You can disconnect your Kroger account, delete individual recipes or plans, or permanently delete your KartChef account and all associated data from inside the app (Profile → Delete Account). Deleting your account does not remove recipes you imported from the shared public catalog — only your personal data (favorites, plans, saves, and profile) is removed.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal data — for example, to access a copy of it, correct it, or request its deletion. In-app account deletion covers most of this already; for anything else, email us at Email us and we'll respond within a reasonable time.
Children
KartChef is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we'll update the date above and, where required, notify you in the app.
